Do It Digi Challenge for Oct. 8th, 2008
October is known as Halloween month in my household. But, it's also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In honor of this, pull out your pink supplies and colors and make a layout using as much of that color as you can. Bonus points if it's a non-girl layout!
Have fun and remember to post in the gallery so we can leave some love for you!

DO IT DIGI WED - JOURNALING BLOCK ON BLURRED PHOTO
I followed a tutorial by Jessica Sprague. Her step-by-step instructions were so easy to follow for Photoshop Elements, but I'm sure the directions could be easily converted to your digital program of choice. Check it out here: JESSICA SPRAGUE TUTORIAL
This is the page that I made following the technique.
Make sure to post your layout in the Shakin' Challenges Gallery HERE and link back to the forum so we make sure we see your creation!

Converting Black and White Photos
I wanted to use the original photo for this layout, but the original had colors in it that didn't work well with the kit. So I decided to convert it to black and white. This can be done in most editing software programs. I converted mine using Adobe Photoshop Elements 5. Here are the steps below:
Photoshop Elements 5
Open Photoshop Elements.
Click on Edit and Enhance.
Click on File, then open, and choose the photo you want to edit.
Once the photo is opened, click on enhance.
Click on convert to black and white.
Click save as and type a name for your black and white photo.
Then you are ready to print your photo.
Microsoft Word
You can also use Microsoft Word to convert your photo to black and white.
Open Microsoft Word.
Insert your picture through the Insert Menu/Picture/From File.
Select the picture with one click.
Choose the Format Menu.
Select Picture.
Select the Picture Tab.
Choose the color drop down arrow from Image Control.
Select Grayscale.
Click on OK.
Give it a try on your next layout!

Have You Ever Tried a Digital Hybrid Layout?
Then I printed it on matte photo paper. I used some cardstock from the September kit, corrugated cardboard, black paint from Making Memories, and my daughter’s trucks to make the tire tracks. After creating the tire tracks I let it dry and then placed the print out of the digital layout on the brown cardstock. Next I placed the elements on the page using adhesive. Embellishments were also used from the September kit. I created the arrow using cardstock from the kit. I also thought the corrugated paper would go well with this. Digital Hybrid Scrapbooking is very easy. You can start with a simple layout and use all kinds of materials to finish it. It is absolutely the best of both worlds!
Challenge: Try creating a digital hybrid layout. You will definitely be surprised at how easy it is.

Inspiration Challenge - 9/18/08
This week for my Inspiration Challenge - I am posting an ad from the magazine the gym I belong to sends out. I know that I have summer photos that are waiting to scrap that has all these colors, then I have my roses that I am very grateful that made it thru the storm (I already have a rose-deformed but I have one and its beautiful) that can be represented thru the flowers and the rainbow that gives us hope that it really will be okay and we will find that pot of gold one day if we haven't already.

Blending ~ Do It Digi Challenge 9/3/08
In the following page, you will see that I blended my photographs in two separate ways. I've set one photograph to overlay and made it a larger accent for the background, and the smaller photo I converted to black and white and then blended with a blue background paper, using the overlay and color burn options for layers. In addition to that, I blended two background papers in the center to make the colors pop a little bit more. I didn't do it on this particular layout, but sometimes I'll duplicate layers, like the birds and the leaves and then set to overlay to make the colors more vivid.
Experiment with your digi program, and let's see some blending this week. Be sure to post your layout to the Shakin' Challenges Gallery and link back here so we can ooh and aah over your page!

DECK OF ME CHALLENGE, WEEK TWENTY-THREE
I won't be in exactly the same place I am right now . . . and neither are you. What's going on with you RIGHT NOW that you want to remember? Are you having a big life moment (a career change, a house move, a new baby)? Or is your RIGHT NOW filled with all the little things that seem so little right now, but will be big when you look back - IF you remember what they were (and you will, 'cause you're gonna make a card!).
REMEMBER, these prompts are great for layouts as well . . .

FILLING TYPE, DO IT DIGI WEDNESDAY 7/23/08
Ready for a new digi challenge?
There are some incredible alphas out there ready to use, but sometimes a layout needs that little punch of something extra. This week, I'm challenging you to use a font "filled" with paper (patterned or solid), something that really coordinates with your photo and the papers and elements you've so carefully chosen to tell your story.
Jessica Sprague has a tutorial HERE, but you can also use a clipping mask if you want to quickly merge the font and paper together without the stroke edge on the paper filled font.
You hybrid gals or traditional scrapbookers can take advantage of this technique as well. Let's see what you can do!
Remember to post your layouts in the Shakin' Challenges Gallery with a link back to this thread so we can leave you some luvin'!

DO IT DIGI WEDNESDAY - DROP SHADOWS ON ACRYLIC
Here is the link to her tutorial: http://spraguelab.squarespace.com/blog/2008/4/21/photoshop-friday-on-mondayd-dropshadows-on-acrylic-d.html. When you follow the link, you will notice that there is another link in the tutorial to download an acrylic alpha made by Meredith Fenwick. If you don't already have an acrylic alpha or elements, this would be good to grab as it's so cute - and makes it easy to follow along with the tutorial.
So your challenge this week is to create a page using an acrylic alpha or element . . . try out that tutorial on drop shadows, too!
Here are a couple of pages I've done recently using acrylic elements and alphas:

Do you love to see the grass all green and stretching out like a carpet in front of you? These are just a few ideas to get you started . . . but anything that focuses on NATURE will do the trick this week!

This was created with my Stone Washed mini kit available at The Shaker Box. And the "chain mail" frame from an earlier freebie (found on my freebies blog), inspired by Prince Caspian.
Secondly, a God's Art Quick Page (again, photo not included).
This one was created using my Arts & Crafts mini kit, also at The Shaker Box.

School's Out for Summer!
With a new month at The Shaker Box it means a new digital sponsor for our Creative Team! This month we are creating for Rikkiscraps. Our team is quite efficient and the layouts are already rolling in! Here is one of mine:
Rikkiscraps, Left of Center. (I love this paper and frame)! The color swatch was so cute I had to use it too - I just added a little bevel to the circles. Fonts are Dirty Ego and DC Recess. Actions used were Atomic Cupcake Rubon and Traci Murphy's drop shadows.

DECK OF ME CHALLENGE, WEEK FIFTEEN
Take one thing about your parents that pops into your head and scrap that on your card this week. My parents divorced when I was young, and I spent some time with my mother and some time with my father. I'm sure there are lots of varied circumstances out there . . . you might be adopted or spent your time in foster care or had to be raised by family members other than your biological parents. So it's who dedicated and spent time investing themselves in your life . . .
You can see Emily Falconbridge's card here.

CROPPING PHOTOS AT ANGLES - DO IT DIGI WED 5/28/08
Here is a great tutorial for taking a regular photo and making it into a cropped photo at an angle: http://spraguelab.squarespace.com/blog/2007/3/11/photoshop-fridayish.html
Here is my original photo that I started with:
And here is my layout with the cropped photo at an angle (which I did by following the above tutorial):
I really feel like the focus of the photo completely changed when I first cropped the photo, but when I cropped it with the angle . . . it just added an additional element of fun.
Let's see what you can do this week with this technique. Traditional paper scrappers could find that this method would be effective with manual turning and cutting of photos as well - so join with us!
Make sure to post your layouts in the Shakin' Challenges Gallery HERE with a link back to the thread in the forum.
Have fun!
