Inspire Me Thursday!

This week I was inspired by all of the gorgeous decorative edges I see out there. Unfortunately, where I live I don't have access to any cool scrapbook stores that stock these new "fangled" items! So, for this layout of our last day in Holland, I decided to used postage stamp deco scissors to go along with my epherma stickers. Let's see you do a layout using a "homemade" decorative edge! Be sure to post it back to our Gallery.

AND, don't miss out on The Shaker Box Spring Fling Crop starting tomorrow!!

DO IT DIGI WEDNESDAY - BLURRED

Your digital challenge for this week is to take a photo and blur a portion of your photo. And for paper scrappers joining in on this challenge, simply use a photo that is already blurred (that you might not normally use).

On my photo, I targeted my son's image using the lasso tool. I copied and pasted right on top of the photo. I then returned to the original photo and applied blurring filters (I used radial, motion and Gaussian blurs) to alter the background behind my son's image. I did some final blending with the layer image of my son on top of the original photo.

DECK OF ME CHALLENGE, WEEK 7

This week's prompt is SHOES: THERE IS ALWAYS A STORY TO TELL.

Perhaps it's the pair of shoes you wore when you were married. Or the ones you wore to prom. Or your favorite pair. Or the most comfortable. The pair you lost on the beach that night . . . the pair that you wished you had gotten, but never did. They all have their own stories to tell.

For this week's challenge, I focused on some of my baby shoes. My mother was so great about keeping things for us, and these she kept safely in a Stride Rite shoe box in a trunk filled with all kinds of childhood memories. My favorite shoes out of this bunch are the red ones with the little white fluffy at the toes . . . but I think each of them has a story that will tell me a little something about myself, 'cause I don't have any first-hand memories of the shoes.

I can't wait to see what shoes made a difference in your life . . . or maybe it's a pair of shoes making a difference NOW . . . either way, I'm looking forward to seeing your cards this week. Please be sure to post them in the Shakin' Challenges, Deck of Me Gallery HERE. Happy Traveling . . . I mean, Scrapping!

Around the Edges

The calendar says that spring is almost here. Flowers are coming up in Ohio. The rain has arrived and formed large puddles everywhere. But there is still a little snow "around the edges".

For this week's Do-it Digi challenge you need to journal around the edges of something in your layout. It could be the layout itself, a person or object in a photo, a photo, frame, or any other embellishment.

As always, traditional scrappers are welcome to play along!

Here is my example:

Layout of the Week for 3/10-3/14

If you haven't already go check out Rikki's layout and read her fabulous journaling!!! It's an interview with her house and is just hilarious! (http://www.theshakerbox.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/23296) Ever wonder what your house would say about you if someone asked it??? I know mine would not have very many nice things to say about me!

DECK OF ME CHALLENGE, WEEK 6

Your prompt for this week is: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

Pretty simple, really. What do you love?

I chose to highlight my relationship with my husband, but I was really tempted to do my cards about my love of digi scrapping. After some time of indecision, I went with the relationship with my dear husband. I used a portion of a poem by e.e. cummings on my card in lieu of journaling.
You can view credits for my cards HERE IN THE SHAKIN' CHALLENGES GALLERY.

You can view Emily Falconbridge's card for this week: EMILY'S BLOG.

Please remember to post your cards in the Shakin' Challenges Gallery under the DECK OF ME CATEGORY.

Thursday - Inspire Me!

Today I was inspired by a card I saw in Crafts Beautiful Magazine (UK). There was a card made by Louise Bridgen that used a piece of acetate to make an acrylic flower look like it is "floating".

Here is my version:

See what you can do with this and post it back to the Members Gallery!

Also, please take a look at today's LAYOUT OF THE DAY by Rikki! Wow...this is creativity at it's best. I love the humor here!

CHARMED, I'M SURE! - DO IT DIGI WEDNESDAY

This week, your digi challenge is to hang charms or other items in your layout. It can be a time-consuming process to make an element appear to realistic "hang" in a digital layout, but one that is well worth it in the end result. Let's see how many charms or other embellishments you can "hang" in your page this week.

Here is my page with a few charms to give you an idea. Also note the cording and pin that are hanging from the frame.

Make sure you post your layouts in the SHAKIN' CHALLENGES GALLERY so we can all view your works of art!

Sunday's Sketch!

Well it's Sunday and boy do we have a lot of snow! What better excuse to have to stay indoors and scrap the evening away. Not that I really need an excuse but it sounded good didn't it??? Well here is our sketch for this week from Becky Fleck's Page Maps site. I cannot wait for the first of every month to see what sketchy goodness she has in store for us.

Your challenge this week is to use this sketch as your jumping off point and create a wonderful layout, card or any other project your imagination can whip up.

Don't forget to upload your creation in our gallery and also post on our forums when you have completed the challenge!!

Can't wait to see what you all come up with. Stay warm and snuggle in if you live in the snowy areas. If you aren't affected by the snow. . SEND US SOME WARM WEATHER WILL YA?????

DECK OF ME CHALLENGE, WEEK 5

This week, we are going to be using ephemera on our cards.

Wikipedia explains that ephemera is transitory written and printed matter, not intended to be retained or preserved. The word derives from the Greek, meaning things lasting no more than a day. Some collectible ephemera are advertising trade cards, airsickness bags, baseball cards, bookmarks, cigarette cards, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, photographs, postcards, posters, stock certificates, tickets, and zines. Decks of personality identification playing cards from the war in Iraq are a recent example.

In library and information science, the term ephemera also describes the class of published single-sheet or single page documents which are meant to be thrown away after one use. This classification excludes simple letters and photographs with no printing on them, which are considered manuscripts or typescripts. Large academic and national libraries and museums may collect, organize, and preserve ephemera as history.

So what papers have been in your life this week? Dig around in your junk drawer, on your bar, at your desk and find pieces of paper that say something about what's been happening with you this week.

This week, my sister gave me the most awesome concert prep kit for the Elton John concert on March 14th. My photo contains more than the paper bits, but the kit included an explanation of what was in the kit, an invitation to the pre-party, a CD of the greatest hits, and some fabulous sunglasses. I'll probably keep the sunglasses and the CD, but don't know that I'll keep the prep kit explanation or invitation to the pre-party. So now it's documented . . . just a little slice of my life right now that says something about me and my sister!

Inspire Me Thursday!

I found this great vintage "Edwardian" stationery at the charity shop a while back for only £1 (thats 2 bucks for the US!). I happened to take it out last night while scrapping and a light bulb went off! I can make a vintage-y card with this! So, I got out the decorative scissors and some stamps....and this is what I came up with!!
Photobucket

So, dig out some old stationery, it doesn't have to be vintage, and let's see what you can do with it! When you are done, be sure to post it to our Members Gallery.

Also, I would like to congratulate ToneK. for being chosen as the Layout of the Day! I am in awe of nearly every layout that Tone posts, but this one knocked me off my feet! I absolutely love it!

Do-it Digi at The Shaker!

March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb or vice versa. If you're in Ohio it's a bipolar lioness all month long (sorry, but it was 70 on Monday, 35 and raining on Tuesday, snow on the ground this morning)!

Create a layout of your favorite animal - your pet or your favorite zoo animal. Focus your journaling on the animal's personality. Make the elements in your layout convey the personality of the animal.

Here is mine:

DECK OF ME CHALLENGE, WEEK 4

Our prompt this week is: a symbol you love. It could be something that defines you or something that you are drawn to repeatedly.
For this challenge, I knew immediately what my symbol would be . . . the cross. It's been a constant throughout my entire life and is definitely a symbol I love.
